| Lonely No More By Lisa K. Wells When a person dies, they go to the Rainbow Bridge and are reunited with their furry friends for all eternity. But what happens if a person did not own any pets during their time on earth? There are a great many pets at the Bridge that were not fortunate enough to have spent their lives with a loving human companion. Whether they were feral, abused, neglected, or the unwitting victims of pet overpopulation; they were not waiting for anybody. At the Bridge, all of their wants and needs are met, save one: the desire, the LONGING, for a loving person to call their very own. When a person dies, God calls their spirit home to Him; many were not fortunate enough to share their lives with a pet. Along the way they, like all others, must cross the Bridge. As they approach, every pet stops what they are doing to look and see if it might be their human; even the pets who aren't waiting for anybody special take pause, in the hopes that it will be a person in need of an eternal companion. As the person draws closer, their eyes down, those pets who are waiting for somebody return to their activities, as do most of the pets who face eternity alone. However, there are inevitably a few lonely animals who cannot help but continue to watch the human as he or she nears. As they watch intently, the human looks up, and their eyes lock with the eyes of one of the animals. Something clicks; the animal takes off, his little paws barely touching the ground. Without hesitation or fear, he leaps joyously into the open and waiting arms of the person. After a warm, loving meeting full of hugs and kisses and gentle caresses, the person continues their journey to Heaven; but from this point on, they will never be alone again... 2002 Lisa K.
