ARLENE
Arlene, who first appeared in the strip on December 17, 1980, is the cynical, gap-toothed, female cat most likely to share dinner (and insults) with Garfield. They have a love-hate relationship: Garfield loves himself and Arlene hates that. Though they will continue to trade a fat joke here and a tooth quip there, don't look for anything serious to develop soon because Garfield is still looking for a mate who will accept him for what he is...perfect in every way. Sometimes, Arlene is to Garfield as Liz is to Jon, as evident in this strip from May 19, 1984.
