From the paperwork that came with the car, I have been able to trace the previous ownership back to 1974 when the car was sold by a James Comstock of Newark Ohio to Jack Burson of Groveport Ohio. In 1977 Mr. Comstock sold the Corvette to Robert Lewis of Marysville Ohio who owned it until December 2004. From all accounts it appears that a partial restoration was begun by Mr. Lewis during the time that he owned the car. Nearly all of the exterior trim, interior, convertible top, and various engine components were removed as the car was readied for restoration. Unfortunately only the paintwork was completed and some of the exterior chrome reinstalled before the car was put away into storage and never completed. The seat frames, convertible top, wipers and miscellaneous trim items were lost. I have also discovered that the engine is an early 60's 6 cylinder, but still retains the original carbs and overflow tank. The entire heater and defroster system is also missing On nearly all of the body panels you are able to detect the underlying cloth pattern of the hand-laid fiberglass body as was typical for the 1953 and early 1954 Corvettes. |
