ABERDEEN IN THE SCOTTISH CUP -
DID YOU  KNOW?
Aberdeen hold two Scottish Cup records; Martin Buchan remains the youngest player to captain a Cup winning side.  He was 36 days past his 21st birthday when he captained the Dons to a memorable 3-1 victory over Celtic at Hampden in 1970.

The fastest goal recorded in history of the Scottish Cup was John Hewitt's 9.7 second goal against Motherwell at Fir Park in 1982.

Former Dons winger Peter Weir fulfilled a personal ambition when he signed for the Dons in 1981.  Weir became a Dons fan after going to a 1970 final against Celtic.  "My dad took me to watch the final in 1970 and i was so impressed by Aberdeen i decided they were the team for me" said Weir after he completed his dream move to Pittodrie.

The Dons first ever final crowd attracted a British record crowd of 147,365 when Aberdeen played Celtic at Hampden.  Although there was an official attendance  it was reported that over 20,000 gained entry by other means, as almost the same amount of fans were turned down at the gates.

Alex McLeish has played in more ever Scottish Cup finals than any other Aberdeen player. McLeish played in 6 final's for the Dons, and only lost once, in 1993. He was captain in 1990 and 1993 while he scored a memorable goal in 1982 final when he curled the ball from the edge of the box to set the Dons up for a  4-1 victory over there Ibrox rivals.

The last time that Aberdeen won the competition in 1990 was the first occasion that the Cup Final had went to  a penalty shoot out. Theo Snelders, saved Celtics Anton Rogan penalty, which allowed Brian Irvine to score the winning penalty 9-8.
