This is Robert Kennedy. He served as Attorney General of the United States under his brother John. Bobby served as a New York Senator before running for president in 1968. Among his greatest accomplishments was helping his brother handle the Cuban Missile Crisis and waging a war on organized crime. He was assassinated by Sirhan Sirhan during his presidential campaign. This ensured victory for Nixon at a time when he was poised to be beaten by another Kennedy. This proved to be a great loss for the United States. Some people remember the 60’s for the great music and the good times. It’s easy to forget that this decade also saw the violent deaths of many leaders who left an entire generation with no tomorrow to look forward to. It saw by and large the poor, young, and stupid get thrown by their elders into a Vietnamese jungle. It will always be the killing and chaos that fill my mind when I think of the 60’s, even if the Beatles were great.
