This is a tough one. I guess it really depends on if you are willing to remain friends with him. If so, pretending to hide your feelings can only end in a heated argument followed by physical altercations. I suggest talking to said "idiot male," however hard it may be, and tell him that you are not going to let his mistakes ruin the friendship.
On the other hand, if you don't particularly care for him anymore, (I have a feling this describes your case), I can't offer a "fix" as it were. I can only say that you should not dwell on the boy or the other girl at all. Free your mind, if you will. Don't let it get to you. Once you realize that you really couldn't give a care less about him, the better your life will be without him.
