| When Summer Fades She Paints her face Just like all her friends Hanging out and long walks on the beach are some of her favorite things to do She listens to the hottest pop songs Making sure everyone around her hears them when she pulls into parking lots Friends tell her she is prettier than them She believes them She tells that to herself when she looks into the mirror Sarah doesn't get along with mom and dad Though she only sees dad on the weekends when she goes to his house The only thing that keeps her different from the others is the words she writes in her journal She writes poems about love and feeling lonely She writes about how she sometimes wants to be somebody else When Sarah is in her room writing Pictures of her best friends stay close to her So many people love her So many people hate her Everyone knows her Sarah writes about how she hates herself And sometimes wants to die She hates the name Sarah and wished she'd never been born Walking in the halls of school All the people see is her fake smile and expensive clothes that she only wears once All they see is her laughing at the others kids because they are a little bit different It's hard to like her sometimes But all her friends are just like her One night She was upstairs sleeping when she was awaken by the heat of the fire in her room Frightened and sweating She picked up her journal Before she left to save her life she wanted to stay pretty so she went to grab her make-up and clothes All that took too much time and all the windows and doors were blocked off by the flames She dropped everything except her journal and started to cry Sarah was trapped and screaming from the burns She was starting to catch fire, it hurt bad Desperate for life, the life she hated and wanted to go away The glare from the moon made the window slightly visible Without much chance, but her only hope She ran through the fire and through the window while holding tight to the journal Sarah was in flames and knocked out from the fall she took She was quickly sprayed down and taken to the hospital to be saved Sarah was still alive But barely One year after she was in flames Sarah didn't look the same anymore Her hair was permanantly burnt off her head and face Sarahs face was severely scarred No one knew who she was anymore Sarah wasn't Sarah anymore Nothing was the same She cried everyday and wouldn't go outside to be seen What made her who she was, was gone She never went back to school Never had a boyfriend All she had was her half-burnt journal that was barely saved from the fire She wrote a poem on the last page and it said in it... "Deep down I love everyone Sometimes it's hard though I just wish people would love me for more than just the way I put on my make-up and where I shopped Now that people are forced to love me for who I am, no one will even look at me No one will talk to me or call me I wish someone would love me I wonder if they will notice when I'm gone I wonder what picture they will remember me by I wonder" After she wrote those last words Sarah went outside into the dark Mom was inside sleeping She wasn't afraid or nervous She had no emotion at all She said a prayer to God asking Him to please take her when she dies Sarah walked slowly to the train tracks For a long time she stared at the tracks without a thought in her head The train was coming and she layed in the path of the tracks She said goodbye to the world Sarah never looked back Goodbye Sarah I love you If only you knew |
