Introduction
Our story begins in Chester County,
Pennsylvania
where we learn Eleanor Hindman was brought to this
country from Ireland
when she was a young child. It was there that she
met and married John Fletcher.
In 1739, John Hindman, born in Londonderry,
Ireland, came to
America
at the direction of his father to find his sister, Eleanor.
After finding his sister and her family, John Hindman began his education at
Donegal Presbytery in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania to prepare himself to be a Presbyterian Pastor.

In 1742, John was licensed to
preach and preached in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania
before going to Virginia. In 1745, John was preaching in
Augusta
County, Virginia
when four hundred and sixty acres of land on the Little Calfpasture River was
conveyed to him. Follow the chronological list of records to see the outcome of
a forty-six year battle over this land.
