| The information below is what you'll need to have to be eligible to take the Private Pilot Practical test. The numbers after the text lines are the FAR sections in which the requirement is specified. Under endorsements, "log" indicates the endorsement must be in the students log book, "cert" indicates the endorsement must be on the students pilot certificate. NOTE: While the minimum time required by the FAA is 40 hours for a private license, very few students complete the training in less than 55-60 hours. The student is required to take both a knowledge(on a computer) test and a practical (oral and flight) test to receive a Private Pilot rating. The passing score on the written test is 70%. The practical test is pass/fail. In addition, since 9/11, students are required to provide proof of citizenship (passport or birth certificate) and, if they are not US citizens, to coordinate with the Transportation Security Administration.
