The student is required to take both a knowledge(on a computer) test and a practical (oral and flight) test to receive a Private Pilot rating. The passing score on the written test is 70%. The practical test is pass/fail. In addition, since 9/11, students are required to provide proof of citizenship (passport or birth certificate) and, if they are not US citizens, to coordinate with the Transportation Security Administration.
