An ethos is a appeal based on the character of the speaker.
I think ethos help a lot. For example, SBC using the phrase "Going beyond the call." I guess they use that slogan because they are not just providing phone service. It is an effective approach because they have been with us for a long time and also provides internet and cable. I myself have tried SBC internet. While it doesn't provide the fastest bandwidth, it is the cheapest broadband provider out there. Their phone service is by far the cheapest available and they also provide good service. A Pathos is an appeal based on emotion.
An example of a pathos approach to rhetoric is just like the war with America and Iraq. Just because people died in the world trade center doesn't mean we have to go to war. Many people died, so soldiers fight for what happened that day. It is definitely a effective approach because emotion tends to make people do crazy things. War is something that should have never happened in this world. We are just fighting other human beings that also have family and a life which we would like to keep ourselves. Sources:Stan Klos. A Logos is an appeal based on logic or reasoning.
Documents that are distributed by companies or corporations are based on logos. For example, smoking kills but the company doesn't really care that it does. Business is all about money right? Scientists has proven that they kill but people still smoke because they don't believe it or don't really care about their lives. If smoking kills then why don't the companies stop selling it and prohibit smoking. I myself don't smoke and never will smoke. I believe Logos approach is not a very effective method.
