I don't know if I'll ever get over the fact that the Democrats put up John F. Kerry to run against George W. Bush this year. They assumed that the country wanted "anyone but Bush" so who did they give as an option? No one. Some senator from up north with no real core convictions. I was surprised he got as many votes as he did. If you confronted any Kerry supporter the fact was they knew very little about the man they wanted in office. "Can you name a bill with Senator Kerry's name on it?" "Can you name an accomplishment of Senator Kerry's in the twenty years he's been in the senate?" "Do you know what his current position on Iraq is?" Any time one of these questions was asked to a Kerry supporter you could almost guarentee that there would be no answer. It scares me to think that we leave the fate of our great nation in the hands of so many uninformed voters. There almost needs to be a basic knoweldge test before you can vote. People vote because of what groups tell them to do. I'm a member of a labor union therefore I must vote Democratic. I'm in the NAACP therefore I must vote Democratic. It scares me to think that people let organizations do the thinking for them. We need to take control of our own lives and make decisions for ourselves again. I don't have a problem with you if you are a Democrat, as long as you can tell me why you are a Democrat. I hope that the thirst for knowledge will spread and that this next election will produce more informed voters so that we can avoid Hilliary in '08. |
