Welcome to the Detroit Pershing High School, a school of winners.   Pershing High School is located just north and east of the center of Detroit.  It has all the prescribed characteristics of an urban school.  The school population consists 88% African American and 11% middle eastern decent.  Sixty percent of the student population qualify for free and reduced lunch.  Many of our students do very well as high school students even through 60% of the adults in the attendance area have not completed four years of high school.  For the last ten years there has been a steady increase in student grade point average.  Seventeen graduating seniors had a 3.5 or better G.P.A for the school year 1999-2000 Pershing students recieved over $2,000,000.00 scholarships and grants.  NBA player Steve Smith, a 1987 graduate, established an endowment for a full academic scholarship each year for a Pershing High School graduate to Michigan State University.  Pershing has had a proud history in atheltics.  It has produced four gold medal winners in the Olympics.
