DETROIT COMPACT

Introduction

The Detroit Compact is a comprehensive partnership between Detroit Public Schools and the Detroit Regional Chamber support by government, business, labor, higher education, and community organizations.  As one of Detroit Public Schools' premier programs, Detroit Compact has provided employment opportunities or college assistance to students achieving established standards.  A histori profile of the data, indicates that Compact students have successfully attained the standards set forth by the stakeholders council.  In recognition, we celebrate the past and continue progress of compact students by reuniting partner groups who committted time, resources, and support for the Detroit Compact Programs.

Historical Background

In late 1987, New Detroit, inc., the Governor of the State Of Michigan and the Detroit Strategic Planning Project recommended the creation of the Detroit Compact.  The compact was designed to enhance the quality or public education by providing various of opportunites for students attaining specific standards.  Tangible rewards and incentitives are provided to help motivate students to achieve academic excellance. 
Detroit Compact Standards

- 95% attendacne of better
- 3.0 or better cumulative G.P.A
- ACT: 21 or better; SAT: 990 or better
- No major class (Class 2 or more) and no more then 3 minor (Class 1) violations of student code of conducts.
- Be drug free
- Meet requirement for college admissions
Job/Comunnity College Standards

- 95% attendance or better
- 40th percentile on standarized test in reading/math
- 2.0 or better cumulative G.P.A
- ACT: 18 or better; SAT: 900 or better
- No major (Class 2 or more), and no more then 3 minor (Class1) violations of student code of conducts.
-Be drug free
