Dragonboat Festival Information Pamphlet

These selections were taken directly from the English information brochure for Taipei's 2002 Dragonboat Festival, professionally designed and distributed by the Government of Taipei. The entire brochure was quite literally frought with both grammatical and orthographical errors. These two pages give numerous examples on their own.

The fact that this is supposed to be an offical and professional government publication shows how deeply the lack of concern for proper English usage runs. There is great disparity between the aspirations to make Taiwan a true Bilingual 'country,' and the actual efforts put towards this, and this pressing fact is seen in the end products, just like the one illustrated below. While Chinglish can be humourous, its presence in documents such as this show a more serious side. These examples are more embarrassing than humourous, given their juxtaposition.

The careful reader will have noted the publication's mispelling of its own city. This is embarrassing by any standard.

have go back to the chinglish page!
