The Factions of Fäedór
Information here is in regards to
different groups or factions that may play a relevant role in adventures in Fäedór.
Knights of Justice: The
Paladins and Priests of Alfær Llywn residing in Xysos that bring Law and
Justice to the people of Xysos and the hinterlands. The are often welcomed
to Tandril, but only if the inviting noble is assured that the Knight's law will
uphold his/her own.
Once a season the Knights of Justice make their rounds in the
hinterlands. The order typically dispatches a dozen members who then
divide into groups of three and scour the hinterlands acting as judges and
constabulary. During this process, the people of the hinterlands are free
to bring their cases before the Knights of Justice for trial.
Knights of Pontos Solastrian: Syndarin Paladins that have no intention of retreating to Tol Taurea, but rather seek to drive the Mesmeratim from Fäedór. The order is actually made of of several factions who are collectively referred to by the Knights of Pontos Solastrian.
Maldavian Guard: An elite guard serving as the protectors of the Council in Firiel. Generally the officers are females and the grunts are males from families of high standing. A male has achieved the rank of Battalion Commander, of which there are four, second only to Maldavian General. This poor man (Lycurgus Tiberian) then died under mysterious circumstances and it is unlikely a male will receive such a high post anytime soon.
Myladrim (Myladri -sing.):
An ancient race of sorcerers and the original wielders of Magic in Fäedór.
Elves intermingled and intermarried with the Myladrim and gained the ability to
wield magic. Some Elves began to study it in detail and committed magic to
books becoming wizards, while others continued to wield magic as the Myladrim
had and became sorcerers. This split caused the Sylvan and Grey Elf subraces
to develop.
When the human kingdoms came to Fäedór they were
introduced to both forms of magic, but wizardry came more easily as it did not
require special heritage. Sorcery has since become all
but extinct in civilized human realms (except Firiel), though occasionally the old blood runs
high and a person finds they have the ability to wield magic. In barbarian
realms, the blood of sorcerers flows more fiercely and sorcerer's are relatively
common in comparison.
The Myladrim are immortal unless they choose otherwise, but
they are subject to the will of mortals in that they only exist so long as they
have followers. This curse was placed upon them by the gods when they taught
magic to the other races. The evolution of Wizardry turned many would be
followers away and their numbers continued to dwindle unto the present day where
no more than handful might still exist, Mesmerallun is the only known Myladrim
at this time.
When a Myladri passes from Fäedór, their magic endures in
the place where they ceased to exist, reaking havoc with other magic.
Orders of the Trees: Sylvan cloistered orders of monks that once dotted the Sylvan Wood. Surviving are the orders of Oak and Elm, destroyed are the Willow, Tamarack, Pine. These monasteries try to provide any elf that comes to them with hospitality. It takes in those elves orphaned by the Mesmeratim and trains them to be monks over the course of many years.
Order of the Unicorn: Firielian sorceress guild.
Red Sisters, the: A conservative faction in Firiel opposed to elevating the status of men within the realm and often promote "crusades" to liberate oppressed women all over Fäedór.
Sylvan Tiger(s): Before
the fall of Sylvas, there was an elite group of Elven shape-changing rangers
that protected the city from intruders by keeping watch over the surrounding
woodlands. When the Mesmeratim attacked Sylvas, the Sylvan Tigers, as they
were called, were killed by Mesmeratim scouts who were specifically trained and
equipped to do so. Supposedly all the Sylvan Tigers were killed, but the
case would seem otherwise as one has reputably plagued the Mesmeratim and Orcs
in the Sylvan Wood ever since. This last of the Sylvan Tigers has been
spotted throughout the Sylvan wood and does not seem to protect one particular
part. It has been speculated that this last of the Sylvan Tigers is
training others, but there has been no evidence to that effect unless one
believes that more than one survived, and the Mesmeratim insist that only one
slipped by them.
Fingolf and Eolande have met a group of Sylvan Tigers.
