Laufrey-Reflection on his Past
My life had not always been as such, I once was the
favored son in the house. My beard grew long and I was the strong fighter,
but now I quest for that one thing that has seemed to allude me lately justice.
That day still burns in my mind. I had returned to my house to see it in
flames. The crowd gathered around it with axes raised high. I saw my
father raised upon a stake for everyone to see his body was motionless and his
beard shaven. It was a few days earlier that I noticed a changed in his
attitude. That day when the officials said that they had raided the rebel
base. I had not made the connection, but my father was the supplier for
the rebels. I still do not know what they wanted to change, but it was
enough for my family to die at the hands of the mob. Somehow, I was
saved from the cruel mob justice. Those next few days where a drunken blur
to me. I seemed to stumble around town with a bottle in my hands. I
had my honor stripped from me, and my family murdered. What had I to lose?
Nothing, but now I have everything to gain.
I left town with my meager possessions, and a heart full of
sorrow and shame. I could not stand to have those people spit on me.
They spit on me as I passed and on my families name. I spent some time
wondering from area to area. Many times getting into fights and getting
chased out of town with a mob at my heels. It was not until I tried to
steal a loaf of bread that my life would change. I was caught after fervently
resisting arrest, and tried by the Knights of Justice. I was given a
choice of either
death or joining their forces an learn about doing justice. I chose death.
That night in the cell it rained with great force. The lightning was
striking and I heard people scream nearby. In that small village that
night the goblins used the storm to shield the invasion forces.
That night something inside me snapped like a strike of
lightning. I could not control myself and I had to break free. At
that moment I was shown the light, a flash and the side my cell was gone.
A young child ran into the remains of my cell to escape an goblin. The broken
bars where my weapons on that night. The goblin forces did not expect the new
face of justice to be in that small town. I fought side by side those who
had just convicted me to die. We fought valiantly and drove the goblins back.
That next morning at dawn at the time of my execution, I killed that shame
filled dwarf and donned the garb of a knight of justice. I shaved my beard
as my father's the last time I saw him. I now will try to give justice in
a way that was not given to my family.
Today, I ride with my partners Jolan McLaren and Mia
Terpentiel to help the outlying villages. Now I am welcomed by the
villagers instead of spat upon. Now I am Laufrey, hand of justice.
