English Composition I
Welcome to Composition I.

This course provides instruction and practice in expository writing and emphasizes grammatical and mechanical accuracy and proper essay form.  Emphasis is placed on clarity, logical organization, unity, and coherence of central idea and supporting material.

Objectives:
choose and limit topics for writing

construct effective topic sentences and thesis statements

construct and use outlines or concept maps

use and develop appropriate supporting materials

impose unity and coherence on essays

recognize a variety of methods of essay development

develop effective strategies to introduce and conclude writing assignments

construct sentences free of common grammatical, mechanical, and usage errors
