my canvas
john harms 9/8/97
can’t leave an empty canvas alone,
with paint and brush in hand, markers, pencils, or anything,
it would feel strange to leave the plain canvas untouched.
so empty, dull, boring, plain, lifeless, emotionless, unreal.
i have to make a mark on it. i have to make my mark on it…
maybe two, maybe three, maybe lots, maybe as many as I want.
i can’t possibly leave my canvas alone.
that gets boring, seems so empty, a dull life.
i want to express myself with my canvas.
on my canvas.
there are no mistakes.
maybe refinement, maybe.
expression is important to me,
even if the true feeling is found by accident.
discovery is no accident. things are meant to be.
can’t leave an empty canvas alone.
