Sleep-In Sunday

There’s nothing like
being awakened
by the phone call from your mother
at 9:45am on a sleep-in Sunday.
To hear her delighted voice,
better than the damn alarm clock
set for noon
that does nothing but
make you want to
hit the stupid thing for waking
you up so early.

You hear a parent
on the phone
who just opened a letter
from your college,
sent to that address
for some stupid ass reason.

The letter from the dean is short
yet instills months of happiness
and pride to follow.

She reads the letter aloud
over the phone,
on her long distance tab.
I soon find out why she called
so early on a Sunday.
I am super thrilled by the news
yet I go back to sleep.
Only to be awaken again
by my alarm clock,
but not before I resume
my sleep-in Sunday dreaming.
