john harms
life waiting
It’s like having an indecisive person
in the left turn lane,
and the line of cars only lengthens
as people wait to turn.
I hear the left turn signal
clink clank clink clank clink clank
I see the little green arrow
blink blink blink.
With each blink it grows tired
with every clink it wears down
The sound of the damn thing
gets slower and louder.
My hand
reaches for the horn
only desiring a light slam against it
to hold down until my point gets across.
Just as I get there
so damn near close
the line moves
life goes on.
