Repair

Well, as you can see from the pics before I started working on the car, it had a big dent in the rear quarter panel. I had to fix it. It took about 2 days from start to finish in the street it was parked on at my apartment in Phoenix. It looked as though the whole car was side swiped, since there were smaller dents, lower on the body. There were two on both sides of the rear wheel as well as the front at the same level. I pulled and

repaired all three dents from the passenger side quarter panel and cleaned it up real nice. If you look hard you can see that it was hit, but its not apparent at all, even up close. As for the front fenders, they were to bad to repair, and I got a pair off an 88 Tsi from a yard in Oregon, shipped to me in Phoenix. They were mint, and still had the stickers on them. to bad I was prepping the whole car for paint at the time, because they were red too.
As I finished the quarter panel, I decided to shave the gas filler door, and moved it to behind the rear license plate. It now hinges upward to access the filler. A hole in the floor was made next the spare tire so the filler could drain into the top of the gas tank. I cut open and welded a new neck to the tank, and welded a solid plate where the stock neck was. I sealed all the welds with J-B weld. (good stuff for sealing) Did you all now the gas tank is sealed with solder?
After I was finished with the gas door. I decided to shave the stock antennae from the side spoiler. I though it looked a bit out of place there. I didn't just fill the whole it left when you pulled it out, I cut down the hump on the side, so it matched the passenger side spoiler. I moved the antennae to the roof where the rear window squirter was, and took that out completely. Tank and all. I had to, because I moved the battery to that area, and there was no room.
Somewhere in all this I tinted the taillights. I can't remember when exactly. But it looks a lot better now.
While I was doing all this I got a killer deal on a remote keyless entry system with automatic start. So I shaved the door locks on both sides. If the battery goes dead, I can still enter through the hatch. I thought it cleaned up the side very well. Much more than I would have thought. I left the door handles because they fit the contours of the fender flares. Right in line. If It was a gull wing, then they would need to go, but that's another story. I finished the car off ready to paint. But then I found a hood from an 83.
