Where's our Money?
Bush and Friends
Would the US have a space program if there were no military benefits? No, and neither would China. But throwing more money into the space program thinking China's next mission is to build the Death Star is ludicrous. China could become a space threat in the long term, but those chances could be greatly reduced if we controlled the flow of US money into China (what isn't Made in China these days)? China is also an abuser of human rights. I would say no additional funding for the space program. Use any extra money we have to subsidize manufacturing in the US and stop out-sourcing to China! We already have a great space program.
The Great Wall was fab. Didn't see a Starbucks, but modern elements of the Great Wall at Ba Da Ling, north of Beijing, resemble the tacky commercial sprawl of Gatlinburg, Myrtle Beach or Summer Avenue. We climbed some of it. I bought a red "I climbed the Great Wall of China" T-shirt.
