Things are looking
bleak for Jedi Knights, but that won't stop me from playing. Though
it is not as earth-shatteringly pleasurable to play as SWCCG, I still like
it. And I am not alone.
I haven't played Young Jedi Knights, and I don't want to. Call me a
purist, but I prefer the original trilogy to the new movies. Even though
it is just a card game, a metaphorical representation with tags that happen
to correlate to characters in a bunch of movies, I can't help but harbor a
certain dislike of anything that is based solely on Episode I.
SWCCG has recently attempted to unify the two trilogies, which is a noble
effort that I support completely. I was annoyed at their initial stratification,
which is probably one of the reasons why I dislike Young Jedi Knights.
I wanted them to provide a homogeneous gaming system that would incorporate
both of the trilogies, and I knew that SWCCG would be the platform for that.
Young Jedi Knights was clearly just an attempt to temporarily cash in on Episode
I while they finished with their SWCCG releases that were based on the first
trilogy.
The appeal of Jedi Knights is pretty clear. It is faster, it is more
interactive, and it is simpler (for now). Rather than spending upwards
of an hour playing SWCCG, JKTCG allows a game to be dished off in a half-hour,
tops, depending on the game. The cards are also fairly attractive.
No more over-used images from the movies. Finally some flexibility in
the graphic design of the cards, on par with Magic and other CCGs that have
traditionally been more attractive than those offered players of SWCCG.
In any case, I like it, and I hope it stays around.
