Sharon Powell
Sharon was a Facilities Product Manager for Ingenix, a division of United Healthcare. She formerly worked as a Product Manager and a Coding Product Line Specialist working on ICD-10 for 3M Health information Systems Division, in Salt Lake City. Before that, she was the Associate Director of Patient Finance and Associate Director of Health Information at John Sealy Hospital at UTMB. She returned us to Texas from Albuquerque where she was Interim Director of Health Information at Presbyterian Healthcare Services, and Coding Manager at University (of New Mexico) Hospital. She also is an illustrator and a diamond appraiser.
We are from Paris, IL, and El Dorado, AR. We met in college at Indiana State University and graduated a dozen or so years later from Louisiana Tech University (John with a BA and MBA in Finance; Sharon with a BS in HIM); lived in Lawrenceville, IL; Austin, TX; Ruston, LA; Albuquerque, NM; League City, TX; and Salt Lake City.
Among other places we've worked are: WPRS/WACF radio (Paris, IL); WTHI radio/tv (Terre Haute, IN); WAKO radio (Lawrenceville, IL); WVUB / WVUT (Vincennes University, Vincennes, IN); KTVV (now KXAN) Austin, TX; Morning Paper (Ruston, LA); and the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center.
John is a member of the Public Relations Society of America; Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership society; and the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem (SMOTJ), the Knights Templar. Sharon is a member of the American Health Information Management Association; Sigma Zeta national mathematics and science honor society; the Gemological Institute of America, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the American Colonies, and SMOTJ. She is a former member of the Richard III Society.
We have two daughters. Hill is married to Kirk Olson. She graduated from South Texas College of Law after finishing as a magna cum laude from the University of Houston . Shade is a freshman at UH.
