Death of Col. Samuel Hammond. Another Patriot Gone! Col. Samuel Hammond is no
more! He breathed his last on Sunday morning at about 10 o'clock at his residence,
a short distance from Hamburg, in the 87th year of his age. (Ibid) (From Hamburg

Samuel Hammond, Jr. vs Charles Barbar - Bill of Compt. The complainant having
stated by affidavit that Sherrod Sims and Samuel. Hammond Senior witnesses in
this case are both aged and infirm persons, on motion of Mr. Blanding ordered
that a commission do issue for their examination. Philip Burford, a witness in
behalf of complainant, who is about removing from this State be examined de bene
esse. Notice to be given to defendant or his Solicitor.

about to leave the State having been returned, on motion of Mr. Brevard ordered
that it do pass publication.

Samuel Hammond being duly sworn saith that he was a witness to the Deed from
the Defendant to the Complainant, that the whole of it is in his handwriting,
which he drew at the instance of both parties, that the Defendant afterward told
this Deponent that the Complainant had paid him for the land, and that he wished
to give him a deed for it, that the Deponent drew the deed by the description
contained in the bond, and at the instance of the Defendant made the alteration
which appears on the face of the deed, the Complainant not being present, and
when this Deponent saw the Complainant, he expressed himself not satisfied with
it, but that this Deponent prevailed on him to accept it, mentioning that the
Defendant Barbar was an honest Man and would no doubt do what was fair and honest.

(P. 43) Sherrod Sims sworn saith that the Defendant came to his house and told
him he had sold a tract of land to Samuel Hammond, the Complainant, that he was
present at the laying-off of the tract, that the Defendant said he knew he was
giving the Complainant more than 100 acres, but intended to do him a kindness.
The Defendant was with them the whole time they were laying off the land, and
desired him as it was very hilly to give good measure. His father drew the Bond
between the parties, the Defendant was present directing the way in which it
was drawn.

Samuel Hammond vs Charles Barbar. Ordered that a Trial at Law be had in this
cause on feigned issue, gives the facts for the jury to decide concerning the
deed and property lines. Mentions Hood's line and a corner on Russel's tract
as shown on the plat by Adam McWillie. Plat admitted as evidence. The evidence
taken de bene esse by order of this Court to be sent to the Court of Common Pleas
of Lancaster Dist. to be received in evidence at the Trial.

Evengilist of Almighty God as well in behalf of Zachariah Eastes plaintif as
John Wilson def't Deposeth & Sayeth that he was present when Col'o Samuel
Hammond then Com'g a Regiment of South Carolina State Troops Isshued the following
