WILKES-BARRE, PA -- Kris Beech had a goal and two assists for the Wilkes-
Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 5-3 triumph over the Philadelphia Phantoms on
Sunday. The 23-year-old center , who leads the club with 26 assists and 34
points, set up a goal by Matt Murley late in the first period, helped Michel
Ouellet establish a 4-1 cushion midway through the second and capped the
scoring on an empty-netter with four seconds remaining in the contest. Ouellet
added an assist and Ben Eaves recorded a goal and an assist for Wilkes-Barre,
which has produced at least five goals in each of its last four victories
since December 11. Marc-Andre Fleury, who faced 23 shots over the final two
periods, made 29 saves to raise his record to 12-5-2. Antero Niittyamki
surrendered three goals on 12 opening stanza shots and ended with 19 saves in
defeat. Todd Fedoruk netted his first AHL goal since the 1999-2000 campaign
and John Slaney registered a goal and an assist for Philadelphia, which gave
up five or more goals for just the second time this year. The Phantoms lost to
the Penguins, 6-4, on December 11.
