PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Ben Stafford converted both of his shootout attempts for
the Philadelphia Phantoms in a 3-2 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins
on Wednesday. Stafford, who appeared in his first shootout of the season,
established a 1-0 lead after the first round and gave his team its 18th
victory in its last 19 games when he beat goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury in the
seventh round. Jon Sim and Ryan Ready each had a goal and Antero Niittymaki
garnered his league-leading 13th victory with 25 saves for Philadelphia, which
improved to 8-2-0-0 in one goal games. Fleury, who stopped 31 shots in the
contest, was unable to deny the final two shootout players he faced in defeat.
Tomas Surovy and Matt Murley each registered a goal for Wilkes-Barre, which
suffered its second shootout loss in as many meetings against the Phantoms
this year. 1
