PROVIDENCE, RI -- Jon Sim netted his second overtime goal in as many games to
help the Philadelphia Phantoms defeat the Providence Bruins, 4-3, on Sunday
for their 14th straight win. Sim, who finished with two points in the contest,
took a pass from Mark Murphy and beat goaltender Hannu Toivonen 74 seconds
into the overtime period to give him three goals and five points in his last
two games. R.J. Umberger extended his goal-scoring streak to three games with
a second-period tally and Antero Niittymaki made 28 saves for Philadelphia,
which has taken six of its last seven games by a margin of one goal. Toivonen
was unable to stop the third shot he faced in overtime and ended with 37 saves
in defeat. Brent Thompson scored twice and Patrice Bergeron, who compiled 16
goals and 39 points in 71 games for the Boston Bruins in his debut last
season, registered a goal and an assist for Providence, which had its
three-game home winning streak snapped.
