PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Joni Pitkanen, Patrick Sharp and R.J. Umberger each scored
in the shootout as the Philadelphia Phantoms added to their season-high
winning streak with a 3-2 triumph over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins,
3-2, on Friday. With his team down 2-0 midway through the third round,
Pitkanen beat goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to extend the shootout. Antero
Niittymaki stopped an attempt by Shane Endicott, who registered a
second-period goal for Wilkes-Barre. Sharp followed with a marker to even the
shootout at two goals apiece. After another Niittymaki save, Umberger gave his
club its eighth straight victory when he put the puck past Fleury in the
deciding fifth round. Peter White, who recorded two points in the contest,
evened the score at 2-2 on an extra-attacker tally with 37 seconds remaining
in regulation and Niittymaki made 23 saves for Philadelphia, which improved to
2-1 in one-goal games this season. Fleury, who faced double-digit shots in
both the first and third periods, ended with 32 saves in defeat. Maxime Talbot
recorded his first professional point with a goal for the Penguins, who fell
to 1-3 when tied after regulation. 1
