BRIDGEPORT, CT -- Dieter Kochan stopped 34 shots for the Bridgeport, helping
the Sound Tigers down the Philadelphia Phantoms, 4-2, on Sunday. Kochan, who
posted a 1.87 goals-against average in 45 starts last season, turned aside all
13 shots he faced in the first period and made 14 saves in the third to pick
up the victory in his first appearance of the year. Justin Papineau, who
registered eight goals and 13 points in 64 games for the New York Islanders
during the 2003-04 campaign, scored his second marker in as many contests and
Barrett Heisten converted a penalty-shot attempt early in the final stanza for
Bridgeport. Patrick Sharp extended his point-scoring streak to two games with
a power-play goal and David Printz, selected in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by
Philadelphia, recorded his first-ever North American point with an assist for
the Phantoms. Antero Niittymaki, who helped shut down all seven Sound Tiger
power plays, made 21 saves in defeat.
