PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Dennis Seidenberg scored on the power play early in
overtime to give the Philadelphia Phantoms a 3-2 triumph over the Albany River
Rats on Sunday. After David Hale was assessed a roughing minor with under one
minute remaining in regulation, Seidenberg shot a feed from John Slaney past
goaltender Scott Clemmensen 41 seconds into the extra session, giving him the
league lead in game-winners among all defensemen with six. Mark Murphy evened
the score at 2-2 late in the third period and Jon Sim chipped in with two
assists for Philadelphia, which registered 18 shots in the final stanza and
improved to 25-9-2-2 on home ice. Antero Niittymaki, who turned aside all 24
shots he faced between the first and second periods, made 31 saves for the
win, raising his record to 31-21-4. Clemmensen finished with 32 saves in the
overtime loss. Ryan Murphy and Zach Parise both had a goal in the third for
Albany, which had its seven-game winning streak snapped.
