NORFOLK, VA -- Eric Meloche and Patrick Sharp each scored early in the first
period as the Philadelphia Phantoms edged the Norfolk Admirals, 2-1, on
Saturday. Meloche notched his fifth goal of the season 59 seconds into the
contest and Sharp followed 98 seconds later with his team-leading 16th marker.
Antero Niittymaki, who stopped 14 of 15 third-period shots, made 34 saves to
raise his record to 18-14-4 for Philadelphia, which entered the all-star break
third in the East Division with 62 points through 50 games (28-16-2-4).
Michael Leighton turned aside 18 shots in defeat. Eric Nickulas scored late in
the third period for Norfolk, which yielded consecutive losses to the Phantoms
after winning its previous four.
