HERSHEY, PA -- Antero Niittymaki recorded an empty-net goal in overtime to give
the Philadelphia Phantoms a 3-2 victory and a 12-game season-series sweep over
the Hershey Bears on Sunday. When Freddy Meyer was assessed a holding penalty
48 seconds into the extra session, goaltender Philippe Sauve was pulled in
favor of an extra attacker. Niittymaki, who made 32 saves in the game, made a
save off of Hershey's Shane Willis and his rebound shot missed the net, went
out of the offensive zone and came to rest in an empty Bears goal. Kirby Law
and Peter Vandermeer each had a goal for Philadelphia, which recorded 46 wins
for the first time since the 1998-99 campaign. Travis Brigley and Martin Hlinka
each recorded a goal for Hershey, which missed the playoffs for the first time
since the 1992-93 season. Sauve made 22 saves in the loss.
