PHILADELPHIA, PA -- John Slaney scored on the power play early in overtime to
give the Philadelphia Phantoms a 3-2 triumph over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
Penguins on Friday. With Matt Murley serving an interference minor assessed at
the end of regulation, Slaney took a pass from Kirk Furey and beat goaltender
Andy Chiodo for his fourth game-winner of the season. Furey finished with
two assists and Kirby Law chipped in with a goal and an assist for
Philadelphia, which improved to 3-1-6 in overtime games this year. Antero
Niittymaki turned aside 21 of the 23 shots he faced to raise his record to
19-11-6. Chiodo surrendered two goals on seven first-period shots and ended
with 13 saves in defeat. Michel Ouellet tallied his team-leading 28th goal for
Wilkes-Barre, which had its four-game winning streak against the Phantoms
snapped. 1
