WORCESTER, MA -- Johnny Pohl and Igor Valeev each scored in the second period
to help the Worcester IceCats edge the Philadelphia Phantoms, 2-1, on Saturday.
Pohl broke a scoreless tie on the power play 26 seconds into the second
and Valeev followed just over 12 minutes later with his first marker of the
season. Brent Johnson turned aside 15 of the 16 shots he faced in the third
period and made 27 total saves for Worcester, which improved to 6-2-2 since
January 25. Chris Houle, making his first AHL start of the season, surrendered
two goals on 29 shots in defeat. Mark Murphy had the only goal for
Philadelphia, which dropped three straight on the road for the first time since
November 1. 1
