| Nightlife in Bangkok for a western man is like nowhere else in South East Asia, except perhaps Manila. The girls in the dark and deafening smoke filled bars are usually very young, tragically attractive and very available if you are inclined to pay the bar fine. During a business visit I was at a loose end between appointments and I did these small works one early stifling afternoon some years ago when the customers were few and the bored girls were happy to pose for the price of a drink or in most cases for nothing. With AIDS now rampant, I wonder how many of these sad and beautiful women are still alive today. |
