Who determines what is right or wrong legislatively, and on what basis do we determine what is moral?
In the previous article on this page, we discovered that the charge made, usually by liberals, that we cannot "legislate morality," is really a self-defeating statement, because every single law is in fact a legislation of morality.  But now we are faced with the questions of trying to determine just what is right and wrong, and in order to do that, we must determine what standard we are using to make our judgments concerning what is right and wrong.

Is right and wrong determined by taking one of those infamous CNN polls, or a majority vote?  Or, is there some absolute standard of right and wrong that is above and outside of us (humanity) upon which we have a foundation to determine what is actually right and wrong?  You see, the issue penetrates to the very fabric of what we believe philosophically.

It has been stated that ideas (philosophies) have consequences, and every one, regardless of sex, ethnicity, education level, or economic condition, has a philosophy.  For example, the philosophical world-view of Darwinian evolution was one of the foundations upon which Communism was born (that according to Karl Marx himself), and also a foundation for Nazi Germany (Nietzche's Nihilism served as the other basis).  Why?  Because in Darwin's magnum opus "The Origin of Species..." he attacked the very core of what people held to be rational, that is, that "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth..."  By attacking that, he also succeeded in turning Western Civilization away from its very moral foundation.

One point of irony for the modern-day liberal, whose moral foundation ultimately rests upon an evolutionary framework, is that evolutionary theory really diminishes the value of human beings.  If we are nothing more than grown-up germs that have evolved from the primordial slime, then why talk about, much less fight for, civil liberties and the like?  After all, the whole concept in this country that we have concerning liberties in general is rooted in our founding documents philosophy that all people are created (not evolved) equal, and since they are created equal (and in the image of God), all people now how have a Divine right to certains inalienable rights, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.   Remove the foundational source for that  (God), and we now have no sufficient basis upon which to even talk about inalienable rights, liberty, freedom, or any other virtue, since virtue, by its very nature, is something that is objective and is defined ultimately by something outside of ourselves (God)--hence, the wisdom and consistency of the Declaration of Independence.  No God, no freedom or independence.  With God, there is individual freedom and rights.
Evolutionary theory, if we are consistent with it, also effectively removes any accountability to God, because in the evolutionary framework, their is no God (or, at least, not the Judeo-Christian God).  By removing accountability to God, it has also removed the only sufficient basis for ethics and morality, and the basis upon which this country was founded.  In place of objectivity, we have subjectivity.  In place of absolutes, we have relativity.  In place of absolute truth, we have whatever seems right at the time.

Why do I belabor this point?  Because ideas have consequences!  Staunch Atheist Karl Marx, who claimed that religion was the "opiate of the masses," had in Darwin's work what he supposed was scientific justification for his form of leftist extremism, and Adolph Hitler had what he supposed was a "scientific" justification for his extermination of the Jews.  In his mind, they really weren't "human," and he was simply doing the world a favor by ridding society of this menace.  One can only imagine what would have happened if Hitler had won WWII.  All peoples, except for his Nietzchean "super-race" would have been systematically eliminated.  Why?  Again, because ideas have consequences.

In the final analsis, there are only 2 foundations for morality:  1.  An absolute truth found outside of us., 2.  Our own opinions founded upon our own opinions.

Famous Agnostic philosopher Immanuel Kant warned us that a society (i.e., a free society) could not survive with an objective moral basis.  This is why he said that though he believed it was impossible to prove to the existence of God, we still, nevertheless, for practible purposes, must live as if there were a God.  If not, then we have no sufficient basis for morals and ethics, and it is just a matter of time before the free society is no longer free--it will be unable to govern itself, thus creating the need for intrusive governmental control, whether it be communism, a dictatorship, or a monarchy.

George Washington put it well: "We cannot rightly govern the world without God and the Bible,"  Here are some more quotes from the founding fathers that give us a clear idea of what the moral basis for the United States of America is:

This is why it is important to realize that every one has a moral foundation upon which they make decisions--decisions that will have dire consequences, and this is why we should be very concerned about those who run for office.  What is their world-view?  Do they believe in absolute truth?  Do they have an objective basis upon which they judge what is right and wrong?  Or, are they driven by their own opinions about what is right and wrong; a relativism that says that whatever is true is what seems right at the moment?

The question ultimately comes to down to this:  who do you want to "legislate" morality? Nero or Christ?  A Marx or a Hitler, who based their moral legislation on the presupposition that there was no God, or our founding fathers who based their moral legislation on Christ's moral law:  Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself? Preservation of FAVOURED RACES in the struggle for life, or, all men are created equal and endowed with certain unalienable rights by their Creator?

Sadly, it seems to me that this country has long since tired of the moral principles and foundations of the founding fathers, and have opted for something far removed from their vision.  The biggest hotbed of Neo-Marxism is right here in the U.S.  Liberals have cleverly propogated their relativistic philosophy and erased from the minds of many Americans just what it means to be American in the purest sense.  They are legislating morality, and the cost has been dear...just ask the 40 million innocent babies that have been slaughtered since 1973, and the thousands who have been physically and spiritually wounded by a free wheeling sexual "revolution" and "alternative lifestyles."
