The whole premise for the story was to fill the space in time between the adventures in the last issue of ODSC nearly two years previous. That was when Super Teach was serving time for her multiple crimes committed while an administrator at her school, and the students there were suffering greater grief at the hands of Super Teach's successor, Dr. Lawless. The title "Five Years" refers to the period of time that the current story line that Our Dear School Comics covered, from 1979 until 1984. This was also the only MC Comic to locate the MC Press at Lenoir, North Carolina, which was actually the location of Scot Mills' seasonal retreat, and the place where John Beers escaped to from time to time.
