| The Anniversaries | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1 | st | Irish Tradition dictates that the newlyweds share the top tier of their wedding cake with guests from their wedding on their first anniversary to ensure a long and happy union. JohnandRain invited several of the wedding guests to a potluck party at the same hotel which hosted our wedding reception a year earlier. The party was held pool side. We served a miniature version of our wedding cake and champagne. At midnight, JohnandRain led a parade of partygoers around the pool and through the hotel using noisemakers left from the wedding. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Rain's parents gave gifts of: a ream of paper, paper towels, wrapping paper, tissue paper, and toilet paper. (Get it...the PAPER anniversary?) |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 2 | nd | A much quieter celebration. Rain wore her wedding dress for John...and later a little, red teddy from their wedding night! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Rain's parents continued the ceremonial gifts with: cotton balls, cotton linen writing paper, and Cottonelle for the COTTON anniversary. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 3 | rd | Joining many of their former wedding guests, JohnandRain rang in the new year with champagne toasts and fun! When we arrived at the party, we were greeted with a rendition of "Happy Anniversary, Baby...got you on my mind," as sung by Bob, Thad, Mick, and others (similar to that originally performed by The Little River Band...in lyrics only). | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Gifts for this anniversary were neither Traditional nor Contemporary. John gave Rain a framed poster of zen stones for the kitchen; Rain gave John a framed poster of the night sky over Three Rivers on the night they were married. (Both frames had GLASS; does that count?) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 4 | th | As with every year, JohnandRain listened to the CDs from their wedding while getting ready to go out. We had dinner and drinks with friends who had just returned from their Las Vegas wedding. Later we went back to their house...and were treated with breakfast in the morning! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Gifts this year included a Senseo coffee maker for John (from Rain) and an electric skillet for Rain (from John) to celebrate the ELECTRIC APPLIANCES Anniversary. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 5 | th | We and several of our wedding guests stayed at our over-flow hotel from the original celebration (our main hotel is STILL closed for renovations). We had a pot luck and rang in the New Year with a champagne tower that Bob & Rain made! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| For the WOOD Anniversary, John was given a wooden puzzle box (from Rain), and Rain was given a Kamp Kemperman sign (from John). Rain's parents gave them a wooden carving of a nuthatch made by a local artist. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 6 | th | We celebrated this one...just the two of us. No party, no guest, no groups, no travel! What a wonderful way to share 6 years together! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| WOOD and IRON anniversary gifts included: A wooden puzzle box (to John, from Rain) A mermaid weathervane (to Rain, from John) An antique iron grate (from Rain's parents) |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
