Rover metros come with solid discs on the front and drums on the rear. With decent pads they're very capable. I've used mine at pod and round the track and repeated braking from 80+mph to 20 caused no fade, I was VERY impressed with this. However, GTi MPi's come with wider calipers and vented discs, these are a great improvement on solids and the same brakes can be found on MGF's

Uprating normal brakes, obviously include better pads. Greenstuff, Redstuff, Mintex, etc, just about everything's available. I reccomend Ferrodo Premiums, I use these and I'm very impressed. Also you can get drilled and grove tarox discs in solid form. But its better to get the whole kit for vented discs if you can.

For GTi MPi's drilled, groved discs are a direct replacement and do a good job along with a decent set of pads. But for even better stopping power you can fit bigger discs, 245mm, 265mm and with 15" wheels you can fit 285mm discs in there!!!

A few companies will do a big brake convertion and supply uprated discs for you, but highly recommended is RoverDose Motorsport. They are very experienced, share a love of metros and do a very fine job.
