Essential Introductions to Computers

A computer is an electronic device, operating under the control of instructions stored in its own memory, that can accept data (input), process the data according to specified rules (process), produce results (output), and store the results for further use.

What does a computer do?

These operations comprise the information processing cycle.

Data is a collection of unprocessed items, which can include text, numbers, images, audio, and video.

Information conveys meaning and is useful to one or more people.

People who use the computer directly or use the information it provides are called computer users, end users, or just users.

Software- a detailed set of instructions that runs the computer

System unit- box like case that houses the processor, memory, and storage.

Keyboard- input device that has keys you press to enter data into the computer

Stylus- a small metal or plastic device that looks like a pen but uses pressure to write or draw

Mouse-used to control movement on a computer
