My Name is John
Hitchcock. I have been facinated by family history for many
years, but it is only recently that I actully started to investigate my
family tree.
I began with my
Mother, as she was one of thirteen children from 2 marriages. Imagine
my delight when I discovered, within my mother's personal papers, a letter
from someone in Melbourne, Australia, making enquiries about relatives
of John Maslen. This letter, which my mother had forgoton about,
was over 10 years old. I wrote back to the sender and kept
my fingers crossed.
A short time later I received a reply. The sender (Shirley), had recently moved home, however, fortunately my letter was passed on to her. Shirley had begun tracing her ancestors some 10 years earlier. As a result I now find I have a cousin in Australia, because Shirley's Grandmother, and my Grandmother, were sisters!
So it is with thanks that I would like to acknowledge all the work that Shirley has put into the project over the past years, which has enabled me to put together this web site
