Miscellaneous news
- The July Ponder This was a probability calculation problem.
- The August Ponder This is a logic design (or Boolean algebra) problem involving minimizing the number of NOT gates (or negation operations) - seemed tricky at first, but finally found a solution.
- Math Central is on summer break for new monthly problems; in the
May problem apparently all four people submitting solutions (including me) used a binary representation approach - an interesting conjecture related to this problem can be found in this OEIS entry.
- The July MSU Advanced Problem was an optimization problem; for the July MSU Challenge Problem (source: Susan Denham), is it possible Susan Denham = Sue Denham = pseudonym? (the August MSU problems are now up - the result for the advanced problem, at least for non-negative integer exponents, is very nice!).
- There are new Mathematical Reflections problems out now.
