1) Louis Reffelingen, Pinot Blanc, 1999 (Alsace, France) - We tried this at the tasting club at work and it's the first time I've tried this grape. I'd read it goes very well with food and I can see that. There were hints of apple. I think this sample, however, may have been aged past prime so what may have once been a stronger wine was really quite subdued. 5 out of 10 for lower average.
2) Cherry Hill Winery, Estate Pinot Noir, 2004 (Willamette Valley, Oregon) - Another tried in the tasting club, and one I'm pretty sure I had at the Opening Reception of the Boston Wine Expo. My impression tonight was the same as at the Expo: It's a very smooth crystal clear pinot with cherry flavors, however, it's actually kind of boring. Sorry. My impression is it's supposed to be a more upscale and pricey pinot noir, but personally I'd rather a cheaper pinot but one with more character. Still this gets a 6 out of 10 for upper average.
3) Chateau Pesquie, Terrasses, 2004 (Ventoux - Rhone Valley Vineyards, France) - This was highly recommended by a store as a terrific buy and I'd have to agree. It was fresh, bold, and fruity with some peppery zing. And I think the price was around $15. Great stuff. 7 out of 10 for above average.
