Here are two fun lesser known wine labels I found at Bauer Wine and Spirits on Newbury Street, Boston.
1) Curious Beagle, Rietkerk Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 (Paso Robles, California) - This is a smooth, mild, easily agreeable wine. I'd call it a California cab made in the French tradition. The label draws a parrallel to a friendly pet beagle and I can see that. It's a fine wine to share. 6 out of 10 for upper average.
2) Sierra Vista El Dorado Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 (Placerville, California) - This is a from a lesser known wine region of California halfway between Lake Tahoe and Sacramento. It's a fun cab with a unique taste which I can easily say is a 6 out of 10 for upper average. In fact it has better flavor than curious beagle although not the finesse. I think the bouquet is a little better than the taste but it's still a very good drink. There is a hint of something familiar, like maybe beer or some other alcohol drink, enough so that in a blind taste test with several other cabs iIthink I could pick this one out.
