And here are the latest two:
1) Chateau Lamothe de Haux 2005 Grand Vin de Bordeaux (white) (France). This was recommended in a store and we're quite pleased with it. When I offered Nancy a glass of white one night she had a choice of either this one we hadn't tried or the J. Lohr Chardonnay we already speak highly about. She decided to try the new one, which of course meant it was being held up to a high standard. I wouldn't have been surprised if she'd said she'd wished she opted for the J. Lohr. BUT NOT AT ALL. She thought this was great and I tried it too and I find it surprisingly complex for a white wine yet still very easy to drink. Dry but flavorful. Worth a repeat anytime.
2) KWV Roodeberg 2003 (South Africa). This was recommended at Best Cellars and they had labeled it as a "big" wine. I have to say we both really like it and find it easy to drink. However, I'd describe it as at the upper reaches of "medium bodied" not big. Also although it is somewhat fruity there aren't distinct fruit flavors coming from it. I looked up on the web and apparently KWV was a massive marketing and regulatory arm created by South Africa to save its wine industry half a century ago. It has diminished powers now but still helps market blended wines from across the country. I'd say they put out a great product, easy to drink with good flavor, which is well worth the $15 price tag, however, in my opinion it has been blended to the point it lost the individual character of whatever grapes went into it. So very good, not great. Upper end of medium bodied - but not "big".
