Wine Drank by John Jaster
I went from tea totaler to Wine Century Club member and have tried 156 different wine grapes in three years.
Entry for July 24, 2007

Ahh, I just got back from a vacation in Provincetown, Cape Cod, so here are the three things I drank while there.

1) Montes, Pinot Noir, 2006 (Colchagua, Chile) - This was an excellent wine.  Balanced with crisp acidity and a slightly spiced vanillan taste.  Very nice.  If I can find this around Boston I'll buy more of it for both myself and for sharing.

2) Didier Goubet, Cabernet de Bordeaux (France) - This isn't wine at all, it's grape juice made from the same grape varietals used for wines.  Apparently this won a gourmet food award, and I was really excited to try it despite the $10 price tag.  We really enjoyed it.  Yes, it was different than conventional grape juice, tasty, not necessarily better or sweeter but different.  It seemed to have more fine grit than other bottled juices, which I'm sure was a good thing to consume anyway.  I'd recommend everyone to try this once.  But once may be enough because it's advantage over conventional grape juice wasn't dramatic.

3) Truro Vineyards of Cape Cod, Triumph, Meritage Blend (Year?) - OK I gave the locals a try.  I believe there are several wineries on the cape but this was the only local variety I found.  I asked the attendant to pick which was the best of the line so I tried this one.  Oh, it's OK.  It had a slight hint of foxy.  The flavor was OK but apparently it spends a long long time in oak and surely that must be because the juice on it's own is lacking something.  But I'm probably being too hard on them.  It is OK.  Most people would drink this.  I just don't expect it to be a stand out or to win any national or international awards.
