Wine Drank by John Jaster
I went from tea totaler to Wine Century Club member and have tried 156 different wine grapes in three years.
Grosjean Petite Arvine; Cantine Gini Vernaccia Di San Gimignano

Grosjean, Vallee D'Aoste, Petite Arvine, Vigne Rovetta, 2006 (Italy) - What's curious about this wine is two different wine store owners tried to get me to buy it based on it being the only brand of this varietal I would find in Boston and a claim that it was oh so bold and flavorful, but I didn't buy for a long time because it was $27.  Finally one day I was in one of the stores with a different attendant and I couldn't find any other wines to excite me so I sprung for the bottle.  At our wine tasting I had high hopes it would blow away the cheaper sample I knew we were trying after it.  No such luck.  In fact half the people in our tasting group didn't like Petite Arvine, some even calling it woody.  To me I do think the texture, flavor, bouquet, and finish were stronger than the typical average white so I'd still score this a 6 out of 10 for upper average.  But would I buy this again for $27?  No way.

Cantine Gini, Vernaccia Di San Gimignano, 2006 (Italy) - A unique Italian grape from a famous picturesque place.  Despite the cheap paper label all our wine tasting group expected great things from this wine, and naturally then all indeed liked it.  It has light citrus and some nut flavors.  I truly liked it too but the distintion of this as a high versus a low average wine is debatable.  But I'll give it a 6 out of 10.
