Westport Rivers, Rkatsiteli, 2006 (Westport, MA) - This is a Georgian origin grape which was grown locally here in Massachusetts. It was actually a very smooth, refreshing, tasty white which was universally liked by our tasting group at work and all were stunned that it was actually grown in state. 7 out of 10 for above average.
Quinta Da Alorna, Arintho, Vinho Branco, 2007 (Portugal) - A decent rich white which we tried side by side with an Rkatsiteli because they were adjacent on our wine chart. Although the Rkatsiteli had the edge everyone still liked this white and would have it again. 6 out of 10 for upper average.
Aquinas, Pinot Noir, 2007 (Napa Valley, California) - This was highly recommended in a store and had an amazing list of descriptors. The back of the label has tasting notes of "cherries and red berries swimming amongst supple tannins and elusive earthiness" and actually I found that a superb description of it. The store's descriptors also said it had hints of cinnamon roll and I honestly thought I could taste that too. But here's the important thing I want to add. When the bottle was popped it was all these things and probably would have been scored a 7 out of 10 by me, but then each day later the taste had fallen off and by the last glass it was a fairly mild and weak pinot. So drink it within 24 hours of opening or the best enjoyment. Final score 6 out of 10 for upper average.
