Wine Drank by John Jaster
I went from tea totaler to Wine Century Club member and have tried 156 different wine grapes in three years.
Hogue White Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay, Cabernet Merlot
Hogue (Columbia Valley, Washington) Late Harvest White Riesling 2007, Gewurztraminer 2007, Chardonnay 2005, Cabernet Merlot 2005 - Here's a comprehensive review for the Hogue brand, an $8-$10 mass produced value wine out of Washington.  I'd heard of and seen Hogue, I'd read reviews that said it was one of the better cheap brands, so I had to see for myself.  Honestly, it's not the best of the cheaps, it's not the worst, it smack dab in the middle.  Like most of these comprehensive reviews I can say at least one thing stood out.  Both Nancy and I really liked the White Riesling and found it to be refreshing, sweet, pleasant, but not overdone, and I'd give that a 6 out of 10.  All the rest were simply low average 5 out of 10's.  The Gewurztraminer was a decent white wine but really didn't express the unique qualities of Gewurz.  The Chardonnay was OK but a touch musky.  The Cabernet Merlot was a far cry better than a lot of the cheap meritages out there but it still couldn't hold a candle to upper average or above average samples.  All in all I found Hogue equivalent to most any other mass produced $8 to $10 brand.  You'll find everything is drinkable but frankly you'll be pretty bored in most cases.
